The Creator

The Creator (2023) is a sci-fi action film directed by Gareth Edwards — watch it online on iFILM. John David Washington plays Joshua, a former special forces soldier pulled back into a war between humanity and artificial intelligence to track down and eliminate the Creator, the architect behind an AI weapon that could end the conflict.

What Joshua finds instead is Alphie — a child simulant played by Madeleine Yuna Voyles, small and quiet and possibly more powerful than anything his commanders briefed him about. Gemma Chan and Ken Watanabe round out the central cast, each on a different side of a war where the lines keep shifting.

Edwards shot on location across Thailand, Vietnam, and Nepal, giving the film a textured, ground-level feel rare for a studio production of this scale. Cinematographer Greig Fraser lit the landscapes like a documentary from thirty years ahead. The film asks what makes something worth protecting — without pausing to explain the answer.
