The Manhattan Project
Paul Stevens' high school science project has gotten a little out of hand. He just built an atomic bomb. Now he's got 11 hours to make sure it doesn't work.
Synopsis
The Manhattan Project (1986) is a sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM from director Marshall Brickman. A teenage science prodigy builds a working atomic bomb in his bedroom — and then can't switch it off.
Paul figures out that his mom's new boyfriend (John Lithgow) runs a covert weapons lab nearby. So he breaks in, lifts a sample of plutonium, and assembles the bomb to win a national science fair and embarrass the government in one move. Christopher Collet plays Paul; a young Cynthia Nixon plays the girl who helps him. The prank curdles into catastrophe once the device proves real, leaving eleven hours to keep it from going off.
Brickman, who co-wrote Annie Hall with Woody Allen, mixes suburban ingenuity with cold-war dread instead of going full action. Stream The Manhattan Project online on iFILM.
