Synopsis
MVP: Most Valuable Primate (2000) is Robert Vince's family comedy, and you can watch online on iFILM. Jack, a chimpanzee taught sign language in a research lab, slips away from the scientists and lands with the family of Steven, a hockey-mad teenager. One day the ape wanders onto the rink mid-practice, and it turns out he skates faster than any kid on the squad.
The coach signs Jack up with the Nuggets, the junior league's perennial losers, and the chimp single-handedly drags them to the championship final. Kevin Zegers plays Steven, but the real lead is a trained primate who quietly walks off with every scene. The pitch here is plain and unembarrassed: a cute animal, some ice, a puck, and a premise that knows it's silly. Don't go looking for logic. Younger viewers eat it up, and Canada's Keystone studio later sent the same Jack off to play soccer, basketball and snowboard in follow-up movies.
