Synopsis
German Angst (2015) is a brutal horror anthology out of Berlin, available to watch online on iFILM. Three stories, three directors, one motto: Love. Sex. Death. These are not cozy scares but extreme European genre cinema, meant for viewers with a strong stomach.
In Final Girl, a teenage girl lives shut away with her father in the heart of the city until she takes matters into her own hands. Alraune drags its protagonist into an underground sex club where guests are dosed with a drug that has monstrous side effects. Make a Wish follows a deaf couple who fall into the hands of a gang of sadists, though one of them carries an old Slavic amulet. The episodes share no plot, only a mood of pain, desire and violence.
Behind the camera sits Jörg Buttgereit, a cult name in German underground horror, alongside Andreas Marschall and Michal Kosakowski. The filmmaking is explicit and at times hard to watch, which is exactly the point. Recommended for fans of uncompromising horror, and easy to skip for everyone else.
