Synopsis
Nekromantik 2 (1991) is Jörg Buttgereit's German underground horror, and you can watch it online on iFILM. This sequel to the notorious original shifts its gaze to Monika, a young nurse fixated on the dead body left over from the first film.
Monika lives with Rob's corpse and, in her own way, loves it. Then she meets Mark, a living, easygoing man who dubs voices for adult films and offers the chance at an ordinary, warm life. She's caught between two pulls, and that choice drags the story toward a grim resolution. Buttgereit isn't really chasing shock here; the tone is oddly melancholy, closer to a warped romance about love and revulsion than a straight scare machine. Monika M. stars opposite real-life music producer Mark Reeder.
German authorities seized the film right after its premiere, and the legal battle that followed ran for years — which is exactly what turned it into a cult object for fans of transgressive cinema.
