Tom is a hopeless romantic. Summer is not a villain. That gap is the whole movie. Chloe Grace Moretz plays Tom's younger sister, the only one around him who actually understands what's happening.
Marc Webb builds the story outside the usual romantic comedy blueprint: no airport finale, no misunderstanding that a single conversation would fix.
