About

Synopsis

Jindabyne (2006) is an Australian drama you can watch online on iFILM — directed by Ray Lawrence, adapted from Raymond Carver's short story "So Much Water So Close to Home," starring Laura Linney and Gabriel Byrne.

Stuart Kane (Byrne) heads into the mountains with three friends for a fishing trip. They find a murdered Aboriginal girl's body in the river on day one. They talk it over, stay, keep fishing, and only call the police several days later when they're heading home. Back in town the story leaks, and the community starts asking whether they would have made the same call if the victim had been white. Stuart's wife Claire (Linney) is asking herself the same question.

Lawrence keeps the camera at a dry, observational distance, letting landscape and silence carry the weight. A quietly devastating film about what ordinary people are capable of not doing. Stream Jindabyne (2006) online on iFILM.
