Synopsis
Silk (2007) — watch online a quiet, visually precise romantic drama directed by François Girard, starring Michael Pitt and Keira Knightley. A Canada–Italy–Japan co-production based on Alessandro Baricco's novel of the same name.
It's 1861. French silk merchant Hervé Joncour crosses continents to reach a Japan sealed off from the outside world, buying silkworm eggs from a feudal lord in a remote village. The trade goes through. But Hervé keeps going back — not for the eggs. A woman in the lord's household has caught him in something he can't name, despite the fact they never speak, never touch.
Director Girard builds the film around silence and glances rather than scenes and speeches. That restraint is either the point or the obstacle, depending on the viewer. Those who let it work will find a meditation on longing and loyalty that stays longer than most love stories do. Stream Silk (2007) in good quality online on iFILM.
