Boychoir

Boychoir (2015) is an American drama directed by François Girard that you can watch online on iFILM. Stet is an eleven-year-old from small-town Texas — angry, parentless, and completely unaware that he has perfect pitch. After his mother dies, he's placed in a prestigious East Coast choir school where nothing about his old life works anymore.

Dustin Hoffman plays the demanding choirmaster who hears something in Stet immediately and refuses to let him coast on it. Kathy Bates and Debra Winger appear in supporting roles; Garrett Wareing carries the film as Stet himself. The musical sequences were developed in collaboration with the real American Boychoir School.

Girard previously made The Red Violin, and the same instinct is here — music not as performance but as a way of becoming someone. The film is less about a prodigy than about what it costs to open up.
