Synopsis
Doctor Zhivago (2002) is a four-part BBC co-production you can watch online on iFILM — directed by Giacomo Campiotti, with Hans Matheson as the poet-physician Yuri and Keira Knightley as Lara. The story moves from pre-war Moscow through the trenches of the Eastern Front and into the chaos that followed October 1917.
Zhivago is a man who writes verse in margins and falls in love at the worst possible moments. Sam Neill plays Komarovsky, the cynical operator who shaped Lara's life before Zhivago ever met her; Hugh Bonneville is Strelnikov, the revolutionary who gave up his own love for an ideology. The three men orbit Lara without any of them fully understanding her.
Pasternak's novel was smuggled out of the Soviet Union and published in Italy in 1957 — it brought him a Nobel Prize the following year that Moscow forced him to turn down. This adaptation keeps the novel's central argument intact: history is indifferent to love. Stream Doctor Zhivago online on iFILM.
