Synopsis
Castle of Purity (El castillo de la pureza, 1973) is a Mexican drama from Arturo Ripstein, available to watch online. For eighteen years, Gabriel keeps his wife and children locked inside their own house.
He makes a living manufacturing rat poison, and he feeds his family the same poison of fear — that the world beyond the walls is rotten and will corrupt them. His three children carry the names he handed them: Utopia, Future and Desire, raised under his iron rules. But growing bodies and stifled urges crack the sealed-off household from within, and rebellion gathers right under the roof.
Ripstein drew the story from a real Mexico City case and shoots it cold, almost like a prison record, never nudging the audience with a swell of music.
