Synopsis
Museo (2018) is a Mexican crime drama by Alonso Ruizpalacios you can watch online on iFILM. On Christmas Eve 1985, two aging veterinary students walk out of Mexico City's National Museum of Anthropology with over a hundred pre-Columbian artifacts — and quickly learn that the theft was the easy part.
Gael García Bernal plays Juan, a charming forty-year-old screwup still living with his parents and desperate to matter for once; Leonardo Ortizgris is his slower-witted accomplice. With a backpack of priceless Mayan and Zapotec pieces, the pair drift across the country looking for a buyer. Every dealer tells them the same thing: this loot is too famous to sell and too sacred to keep.
Ruizpalacios isn't interested in a slick caper. The film is funny, melancholy and oddly tender about two nobodies who grabbed a piece of their nation's soul and buckled under it. The screenplay took the Silver Bear at the Berlinale. If you're tired of polished heist thrillers, this grounded, road-movie take will hit differently. Stream Museo (2018) online on iFILM.
