Synopsis
Fullmetal Alchemist (2017) is Fumihiko Sori's Japanese fantasy-action film, adapted from Hiromu Arakawa's beloved manga, and you can watch online on iFILM. This is the live-action take on two brothers who paid a terrible price for trying to bring their mother back.
Edward and Alphonse Elric broke alchemy's one rule — equivalent exchange. The ritual went wrong: Edward lost an arm and a leg, while Alphonse's soul could only be bound to a hollow suit of armor. Now the brothers chase the legendary Philosopher's Stone, the one thing that might restore their bodies. But Edward, a State Alchemist working under the military, is watched closely — by the government, and by far stranger creatures with their own designs on the stone. Ryosuke Yamada of Hey! Say! JUMP plays the lead.
Sori brings the drawn world to the screen with heavy CGI: a talking suit of armor, chimeras, glowing transmutation circles. Anime purists argue over the script's shortcuts, but as a gateway into the franchise it does the job. It's for viewers who like their Japanese fantasy built on a real moral dilemma.
