On a bridge in Kolkata, a random confrontation pulls three young men into each other's orbit: one with political ambitions, one who runs with a street gang, one who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong moment.

Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Vivek Oberoi each carry a separate thread, and each thread comes with its own woman — Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor among them. Ratnam tells the story from three angles on the same incident, cutting back and forth until the picture snaps into place. It is tighter and more fragmented than most of his work — less spectacle, more the rhythm of a crime film, with consequences that ripple out from that one moment on the bridge.
