Synopsis
The Veteran (2011) is a British crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Robert Miller comes home to London from a tour in Afghanistan and finds that the country he fought for has no place left for him.
There's no going back. He ends up on a rough council estate run by local crews and takes a job doing undercover surveillance. The watching leads him to drug dealers whose contacts reach a suspected terror cell — and, it seems, into his own intelligence handlers. So Robert decides to settle it himself. Toby Kebbell plays the soldier as a cold, trained professional wrestling with the wreck the war left behind.
Director Matthew Hope builds a bleak urban story about a fighter for whom peacetime was never an option, true to the tagline that a real soldier never leaves the battlefield. Brian Cox turns up as the spook pulling the strings, and his scenes set the film's chilly temperature. This sits closer to a hard social thriller than a popcorn action picture.
