Synopsis
Warm Water Under a Red Bridge (2001) is a Japanese fantasy drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Shohei Imamura — a filmmaker who took the Palme d'Or at Cannes twice, for Ballad of Narayama and The Eel. This was his final theatrical feature.
Yosuke has lost his job and his apartment in the same week. A dying street philosopher sends him to a seaside town to recover a golden Buddha. What Yosuke finds in the house by the red bridge is Saeko, a reserved woman with an unusual physiology: when aroused, she releases floods of warm water — the fish in the river go calm, the garden flowers bloom regardless of season.
Imamura plays it as folklore rather than fantasy, and Koji Yakusho keeps his performance grounded in quiet curiosity. Stream Warm Water Under a Red Bridge online on iFILM.
