Synopsis
2046 (2004) by Wong Kar-wai is a meditative drama you can watch online on iFILM, a film about memory, loss, and the impossibility of repeating a love once lived. Neon-soaked 1960s Hong Kong, and a writer who cannot let the past go.
Chow Mo-wan rents room 2047 in a shabby hotel and writes a science-fiction novel about a train bound for the year 2046, a place where people go to recover what they lost. Around him, women drift in and out: Zhang Ziyi's reckless Bai Ling, the landlord's daughter pining for a man in Japan, and Gong Li's enigmatic gambler. Each one echoes the woman he can't forget. Tony Leung plays a man who has unlearned how to love but still aches with longing.
It works as a loose sequel to In the Mood for Love, shot by cinematographer Christopher Doyle and scored by Shigeru Umebayashi. Wong shaped it over five years, and that restlessness seeps into the film itself, which cares less about plot than about the feel of time slipping away. This one isn't for viewers chasing resolution, it rewards those willing to dissolve into it. Stream 2046 (2004) online on iFILM.
