Intentions of Murder (赤い殺意, 1964) — watch online on iFILM. Japanese director Shohei Imamura's psychological drama centers on Sadako, a woman whose life barely extends beyond her front door, played by Masumi Harukawa.
Her common-law husband, a librarian, is away most of the time. One night a stranger breaks in. The film refuses the obvious arc. Sadako doesn't collapse or reach for revenge. She waits to see if he comes back. He does. With each return visit, what began as violation shifts — almost imperceptibly — into something the film won't name cleanly. A vial of poison turns up in the kitchen drawer. The question of who it's for runs under every scene that follows.
Imamura claimed the Palme d'Or at Cannes twice over his career, and his method here is patience: domestic sounds, cramped rooms, the weight of small humiliations accumulating until the whole structure tips. Stream Intentions of Murder (1964) online on iFILM.
