Up above, the mood is grim. Hardly anyone qualifies for Heaven anymore, while the queue into Hell never thins — good is losing the count. To turn it around, both sides dispatch an angel in human form. Lola (Victoria Abril), Heaven's prim blonde, is sent to rescue a washed-up boxer named Manny: he's just lost his fight, his injuries are ending his career, debts are closing in, and his mother won't stop praying for him. Hell counters with the seductive Carmen (Penélope Cruz), assigned to drag that same soul downward. Two women, one desperate man caught between them.

A breezy fantasy with a surprisingly loaded cast — alongside Cruz and Abril there's Gael García Bernal, Fanny Ardant as Heaven's chief and Javier Bardem.
