Good on Paper

Good on Paper (2021) is a romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Stand-up comic Andrea Singer has spent years choosing the stage over dating. Then a chance meeting at an airport gate drops a guy in her lap who seems to tick every single box.

Dennis is polite, Yale-educated, works in hedge funds and treats Andrea like she hung the moon. On paper, a catch. The trouble is the details never quite line up: the house he describes feels off, his backstories keep shifting, and her best friend Margaret smells a fraud from the first hello. The longer Andrea talks herself out of her own doubts, the louder the suspicion gets that this perfect man is selling her a story.

Iliza Shlesinger stars and also wrote the script, drawing on something that actually happened to her. Director Kimmy Gatewood keeps it light on the surface while sharpening a real point underneath — how sharp, funny women rationalize a lie because the truth is inconvenient.
