Synopsis
The Chalk Line (Jaula, 2022) is a Spanish mystery-horror you can watch online on iFILM. Driving home late at night, Paula and her husband nearly hit a small girl wandering alone on a dark road. No one ever comes to claim her. Two weeks later, the couple takes the silent child into their home.
The girl barely speaks and lives by one rigid rule: she will not step outside a square drawn in chalk on the floor. Cross the line, she believes, and a monster will come to punish her. Paula slowly tries to reach the child — reading her gestures, her fears, her drawings. As the bond grows, so do the questions. Where did she come from, who drew that chalk cage around her, and what is she hiding from? The search drags Paula down grim roads, where the girl's real past proves far worse than any imagined monster.
Ignacio Tatay's feature debut builds its dread slowly and precisely, with no cheap jump scares. Elena Anaya, as Paula, nearly carries the whole film on her own, and she's convincing in every scene.
