About

Synopsis

Blancanieves (2012) is Pablo Berger's black-and-white silent drama, ready to watch online on iFILM. The director transplants the Brothers Grimm tale into 1920s Seville and the world of the bullring.

A young girl named Carmen is raised by a cruel stepmother (Macarena García and Maribel Verdú anchor the story) until she flees and falls in with a traveling troupe of dwarf bullfighters. Taking the name Snow White, she discovers a gift for the cape and steps into the arena to a roaring crowd. From there comes fame, the stepmother's envy, and a poisoned apple served up with a fresh twist. There's no spoken dialogue at all — a live orchestra, flamenco, and the actors' faces carry everything the story needs.

Berger made a bet that looked reckless — shooting a silent film in the age of blockbusters — and it paid off: the picture swept ten Goya Awards, including Best Film. This isn't museum-piece nostalgia but vivid, sensual cinema that makes a familiar story feel darker and far more Spanish than the original. A perfect pick for anyone craving something wholly unlike the usual fairy-tale adaptations. Stream Blancanieves (2012) online on iFILM.
