Synopsis

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (2013), Season 2 — watch the food-and-people documentary online on iFILM across eight new destinations, each one built around a meal and a conversation.

The opener is Jerusalem, Bourdain's first shoot in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, where the politics never quite leave the table. After that: Andalusia during Holy Week, the layered Spanish-Pueblo-Mexican cooking of New Mexico, Copenhagen in the long shadow of Noma, an unhurried Sicily, a Johannesburg remade after apartheid, the contradictions of Tokyo and its subcultures, and Detroit, a city that rose and crashed harder than almost any other. Same method every time — eat what the locals eat, then listen to how they live.

CNN earned Emmy nods for this run, and you can see why: sharp direction, an honest eye, the host's familiar bite. A good way in if you treat food as a reason to understand a place. Stream Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown Season 2 online on iFILM.
