Synopsis

Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (2014), Season 3 — stream this travel documentary online on iFILM, eight episodes that once again use the local kitchen as a way into a place.

The run begins in Punjab, the Sikh holy land and India's breadbasket. From there the map zigzags: excess in Las Vegas, Lyon where Daniel Boulud walks Bourdain back to the roots of French cooking, Mexico City and its art and daily struggle, a Russia locked down on the eve of Sochi with his old drinking partner Zamir, the Mississippi Delta and its civil-rights history, northern Thailand guided by chef Andy Ricker, and finally Bahia, the African heart of Brazil, all capoeira and rhythm. Wildly different stops, the same approach — eat the local food, hear the local stories.

This CNN season won a Peabody and kept its ratings high, and it earns it: more talk, less guidebook. Pick it up if food is how you'd rather learn a country. Stream Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown Season 3 online on iFILM.
