Awaydays

Awaydays (2009) is a British drama you can watch online on iFILM. The Wirral, early 1980s, under Thatcher's first years: dead-end jobs, shuttered factories, and nothing to fill a weekend except football — and the violence that travels with it.

Directed by Pat Holden from Kevin Sampson's 1998 cult novel, the film follows a young man pulled into a firm where away matches mean fights on terraces and in train carriages. Stephen Graham leads the cast alongside Nicky Bell and Liam Boyle. The Adidas, the music, the whole casual subculture is rendered faithfully — Holden doesn't soften the brutality underneath. The question the film keeps circling is how far in you have to go before coming back stops being an option.
