Dante

Dante (2022) is Pupi Avati's historical drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A decade has passed since the author of the Divine Comedy died in exile. Sergio Castellitto plays the poet Giovanni Boccaccio, who sets out to clear his predecessor's name.

A Florentine guild sends Boccaccio to Ravenna with ten gold florins for Dante's daughter Beatrice — a late, hollow apology for the banishment the city once forced on her father. The journey unlocks the whole life behind the verses: a lonely boyhood, the early love for Beatrice Portinari, the brutal politics of Florence, and long years wandering with no way home. Present-day road and remembered past run side by side.
