Synopsis
Lev Yashin. The Dream Goalkeeper (2019) is a Russian sports biopic you can watch online on iFILM. A working-class kid from the Moscow outskirts dreamed of scoring goals — instead, coaches kept shoving him between the posts. That accident turned him into the finest keeper the game ever saw.
Vasily Chiginsky's film traces Yashin from a factory side to the goal of Dynamo Moscow and the Soviet national team. The black sweater with the letter "D", the flying saves across the whole box, the nickname "the Black Spider". It doesn't skip the low point either — the crushing 1962 World Cup in Chile, after which many wrote him off, and the comeback that silenced them. Aleksandr Fokin plays Yashin, with Yulia Khlynina and Aleksey Guskov alongside.
Behind the drama stands the only goalkeeper ever to take home the Ballon d'Or, the man FIFA would later name the best of the twentieth century.
