Synopsis
A grumpy old man and a lonely eight-year-old set off into the Alps after a rare butterfly and quietly reshape each other along the way. The Butterfly (Le Papillon, 2002) is a French family drama by Philippe Muyl that you can watch online on iFILM.
Julien lives alone in a Paris apartment and has spent a lifetime collecting butterflies; his great unfulfilled dream is to catch the elusive Isabella moth, which leaves its cocoon only a few nights each year. His young neighbor Elsa is always left to herself, since her cashier mother cares more about going out than about her daughter. One day Elsa stows away on the old man's mountain trip, and the cranky collector has to put up with his small companion's endless stream of questions. Michel Serrault carries the film with dry humor, while newcomer Claire Bouanich holds her own against the veteran in every scene. A warm, unhurried watch for a family evening, where the hunt for a butterfly hides a plain truth about how hard it is to stay close to someone. Stream The Butterfly (2002) online on iFILM.
