Better Than Us (Season 1)

Better Than Us (Luchshe, chem lyudi, 2018) is a Russian science-fiction drama you can watch online on iFILM. In a near-future Moscow, android servants are ordinary: they drive the kids, mind the shop, guard the house. One machine breaks that routine — an experimental superbot named Arisa.

Arisa is built differently. She learns to feel, bonds with a family that isn't hers, and crosses a line no robot was supposed to reach. When the first murder committed by an android lands on the desk of forensic specialist Georgy, played by Kirill Kyaro, the case pulls him straight toward her. Paulina Andreeva plays Arisa, alongside Olga Lomonosova and young Vitalia Kornienko. Corporations, security services and desperate parents all start hunting the bot, each for reasons of their own.

Directed by Andrey Dzhunkovsky, the show became the first Russian series Netflix picked up for a worldwide release. Its grip comes from a question with no tidy answer: where does the code stop and a person begin.
