Humans (2015) is a sci-fi series you can watch online on iFILM. It unfolds in a present almost identical to ours, with one change: every well-off household now keeps a Synth — a humanlike robotic servant that handles the cooking, the cleaning and the school run.

The Hawkins family brings home a Synth called Anita to ease the daily grind. Behind her flawless obedience, though, something is awake. Anita recalls things no machine should, and she isn't the only one. Elsewhere, a small group of conscious Synths struggles to work out whether they are appliances or a new kind of person. Gemma Chan plays Anita with a stillness that unsettles more than any effects shot, alongside Katherine Parkinson, William Hurt as an old man clinging to his obsolete Synth, and Carrie-Anne Moss in the second season.

A joint AMC and Channel 4 production adapted from the Swedish drama Real Humans, the show treats a worn premise with real seriousness — no chases, no explosions, just quiet domestic scenes where the line between device and being keeps dissolving.
