Synopsis
Don't Deliver Us from Evil (Mais ne nous délivrez pas du mal, 1971) is a French horror drama you can watch online on iFILM — the debut feature that nearly got buried by the censors.
Anne and Lore are inseparable convent-school boarders, barely in their teens and bored out of their minds. So they swear a private pact: to sin and to serve the Devil. They smuggle in forbidden novels, torment the nuns, toy with their tutors. When Anne's parents leave the estate empty for the whole summer, the girls' wicked games stop being a game.
Joël Séria's first film leans hard into provocation — blasphemy, adolescent cruelty and contempt for bourgeois propriety earned it a cursed reputation and trouble with the board. Jeanne Goupil and Catherine Wagener play it dead straight, which makes their characters scarier than any monster. Slow, mean and unmistakably French, it's strictly for adventurous viewers.
