Synopsis
Two Distant Strangers (2020) is an Oscar-winning short drama you can watch online on iFILM. Graphic designer Carter just wants to get home to his dog. Instead, the morning resets him over and over — each walk home ending in a fatal encounter with the same police officer.
The whole thing runs thirty-two minutes, all of it locked inside a time loop with no exit. Rapper Joey Bada$$ plays Carter; Andrew Howard plays the cop who keeps appearing. Carter tries everything across the repeats. He runs. He stays calm. He takes a different street. Writer-directors Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe borrow the Groundhog Day structure and bend it into a blunt argument: changing how you behave changes nothing when the ending is already written.
The film took the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short, a rare win for a piece made in direct response to the 2020 protests.
