Tak Sakaguchi, a former full-contact martial arts champion, carries the film almost entirely through physical performance. Dialogue is sparse; backstory is thinner still. Shimomura keeps the camera close to the action and the J-rock score loud. What the film trades in plot it puts into choreography, and for a film with exactly these ambitions, that exchange holds.
