Synopsis
"The Surprise" (De Surprise, 2015) is a Dutch dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mike van Diem. In the showroom he meets a young woman who signed the same contract. They fall in love — which is inconvenient, since both have already paid in full. Jeroen van Koningsbrugge and Georgina Verbaan carry the film with dry timing and enough real awkwardness to make it work. Van Diem keeps the tone balanced between genuine absurdity and something warmer underneath, and the film earns its ending without flinching from the premise.
