Synopsis
Teacher's Pet (1958) is a George Seaton romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Clark Gable plays a hard-nosed city editor who has no respect for college-trained reporters, and Doris Day is the night-school instructor who thinks his kind is already extinct.
Ordered by his boss to sit in on her class, the editor gets quietly humiliated in front of the whole room. So he signs up for the course under a fake name, posing as a plain salesman with notions of becoming a journalist. The impostor turns out to be a natural, the professor falls for him, and the lie keeps getting heavier with every honest moment between them.
The film runs on the push and pull between two stubborn people, and that friction is the whole pleasure. Gig Young nearly steals it as a boozy, overthinking psychologist — a turn that, along with the script, picked up Oscar nominations. Breezy, talky and charmingly dated, it's for anyone who loves black-and-white Hollywood farce. Stream Teacher's Pet (1958) online on iFILM.
