Synopsis
Hell on Wheels (2011), Season 1 is AMC's post-Civil War western you can watch online on iFILM — ten episodes set in 1865, as the transcontinental railroad claws its way west.
Cullen Bohannon, a former Confederate soldier, signs on as a foreman not for the wage but for a name. He's hunting the Union men who murdered his wife, and the trail drops him into the rolling tent town that follows the tracks. That town is the Hell on Wheels of the title: a lawless stew of gamblers, freedmen, preachers and killers. Railroad tycoon Thomas Durant runs the money and the lies, ex-slave Elam Ferguson fights for footing, and a cold figure known as the Swede works every angle. Revenge keeps colliding with the simple fact that the rails still have to be laid.
