Synopsis
The End of St. Petersburg (1927) is a Soviet silent drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin. A young peasant arrives in the capital looking for factory work, stumbles into a strike, and ends up in prison without quite understanding what he did wrong. Then comes the front line.
Pudovkin builds each stage of the man's radicalization as a blunt collision — no inner monologue, just events and consequences. Vera Baranovskaya and Ivan Chuvelyov lead the cast; the editing carries the argument. Alongside Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin, this is the other cornerstone of Soviet silent cinema from that year.
