Season 1
The stars are better off without us.
Synopsis
The Expanse (2015), Season 1 — ten episodes to watch online on iFILM, and the opening chapter of one of the most rigorously constructed sci-fi series of its era.
Twenty-third century. Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt share the solar system and despise one another — three civilizations one spark away from war. Three storylines run in parallel: after an ice freighter is destroyed while investigating a derelict ship, surviving officer James Holden broadcasts an accusation that inflames the entire system; on Ceres Station, worn-out detective Miller takes a missing-persons case for a girl named Julie Mao and grows quietly obsessed; on Earth, UN politician Avasarala works in the shadows, pulling threads no one else is watching. By mid-season the strands start converging, and something waiting on Eros Station sits at the other end of them.
Season 1 adapts Leviathan Wakes, the first novel by James S.A. Corey, and front-loads serious world-building that pays dividends across six seasons. Its best move: treating the Belt as a real civilization with its own creole language, its own grievances, and its own dignity. Stream The Expanse Season 1 online on iFILM.
