Synopsis
"Catherine the Great" (2025) is a Russian historical drama directed by Morad Abdel Fattah, streaming online on iFILM. Anna Mikhalkova and Olga Lerman lead the cast.
She arrived at the Russian court at fourteen — a foreign princess, told she was there to marry Peter III and carry an heir. The role of obedient consort never interested her. From her earliest years in St. Petersburg, she read Voltaire and Montesquieu and watched carefully how power was held, shared, and seized. She had a clear idea of what Russia could become, and was equally clear about who should steer it there.
Becoming empress required years of careful alliances, bold risks, and patient waiting. The film asks whether her Enlightenment ideals would outlast the court's resistance — and whether she herself could. Stream "Catherine the Great" (2025) on iFILM.
