Synopsis
The Enchanted Tinderbox (2024) is a Russian family fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. It reworks Hans Christian Andersen's old tale: a discharged soldier heading home picks up a magic tinderbox by the roadside.
Inside it lives Darya, a little girl the wicked VileGuile has cursed and locked away after smothering the kingdom in darkness. To break the spell the soldier sets out on a long road — the caves of dwarf miners, a sky realm of magical ladybirds, a loyal horse called Good Pathfinder and a cheerful balloonist named Jean. A carefree layabout who only wanted an easy life slowly grows into someone willing to risk everything for others. Roman Evdokimov and Antonina Boyko lead the cast.
Director Alexander Voytinsky, a regular hand at big Russian fairy-tale films, leans on bright effects and a plain message about friendship and sacrifice.
