Synopsis
Big Is Beautiful (Mince alors!, 2012) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM. To please a husband who is never satisfied, a young woman checks into the thermal spa town of Brides-les-Bains for a strict slimming program.
At the mountain resort she falls in with two fellow guests. Sophie hides her body under shapeless dresses; Émilie laughs at herself first so no one else gets the chance. The diet barely works, but the friendship between the three of them is the part worth staying for. Victoria Abril and Lola Dewaere play women who are done apologizing for their size.
Director Charlotte de Turckheim, who also takes a role, steers it all toward a plain idea: the real weight to drop isn't on the scale, it's the hang-ups other people hand you.
