Synopsis
Forest Quartet (1984) is a Georgian musical animated short you can watch online on iFILM. In fifteen minutes it draws out a fable by Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, where forest animals try to set up a life of their own.
A rooster and a dog become inseparable friends and decide to build a village together. The work goes well — until a sly fox attaches herself to the pair, with plans for someone else's labor. What follows is a small, sharp lesson about friendship, trust and the price of flattery. Music carries the story as much as the drawings do, which is where the title's "quartet" comes from.
The short was directed by Merab Saralidze, with voice work from Teimuraz Tsiklauri and Oleg Shishkin. Orbeliani's old parable is told lightly here, aimed at the youngest viewers, yet the moral underneath is grown-up. A nice pick for a family evening with kids.
