Synopsis
Ivas (1940), directed by Ivan Ivanov-Vano, is a twenty-minute animated fairy tale you can watch online on iFILM. Its hero is a peasant strongman bound to Polish landlords, working wonders for masters who never thank him.
The Red Army frees Ivas from his servitude — the propaganda stamp of 1940 is impossible to miss. What still draws curiosity are the voices behind it: Anatoli Goryunov, Sergei Martinson and Georgy Millyar, the last a future legend of Soviet fantasy cinema. This one is mainly for viewers tracing the poster-bright early years of Russian animation.
