Synopsis

Every January the local priest hurls a wooden cross into the freezing river, and dozens of men dive after it; tradition promises a year of good luck to whoever surfaces with it. Petrunya, an unemployed woman in her thirties, happens to be passing by — and on impulse jumps in, grabbing the cross before any of the men. That is when the trouble starts. A woman has broken a men's ritual. The church, the police and a furious crowd all demand she give it back. She won't.
What follows is a hundred sharp, dryly funny minutes built around one stubborn question: why not her? Zorica Nusheva anchors the film with a quiet, immovable performance.
