The German strike wipes out almost everyone. Burov is the only man left alive on his stretch of the border, and the front has already rolled far to the east, stranding him behind enemy lines. When he learns that the occupiers have taken over the village where his beloved Hanna lives, he decides to fight his own war. Alone in the swamps and forests, sleepless, through heat and cold, he turns into a nightmare for the invaders, avenging fallen comrades and a stolen right to love.
