The Long Road Home (Season 1)
No soldier fights alone.
Synopsis
The Long Road Home (2017) is a National Geographic limited series you can watch online on iFILM, based on Martha Raddatz's account of the deadliest single day the 1st Cavalry Division faced in the early years of the Iraq War. On April 4, 2004, a platoon rolled into Sadr City and walked straight into a coordinated ambush.
The series follows soldiers fighting block by block through narrow Baghdad streets while families back at Fort Hood wait for news that isn't coming. Michael Kelly and Noel Fisher play men caught in a firefight that wasn't supposed to happen, while Sara Wayne Callies is a military spouse piecing together scraps of information from a base thousands of miles away. Directors Phil Abraham and Mikael Salomon split production between Texas and Morocco to bring both sides of that day to screen.
What separates it from a standard combat drama is the layer of testimony underneath — the series was built partly from interviews with people who survived that day. Stream The Long Road Home (2017) online on iFILM.
