Synopsis
"Voltaire in Love" (Les Aventures du jeune Voltaire, 2021) is a Belgian-French historical drama series you can watch online on iFILM. Thomas Solivérès plays François-Marie Arouet before the pen name — young, combative, already a Bastille alumnus twice over, and constitutionally incapable of leaving a wrong unaddressed.
Director Alain Tasma skips the philosophy lecture and goes for the trouble instead: the love affairs, the exile risks, the uncomfortable proximity to royal power, and the wit that made Arouet a liability in every drawing room in Paris. Christa Théret and Hippolyte Girardot round out a cast that keeps the period from feeling like a museum exhibit.
