Synopsis
Born a Star (Rozhdyonnaya zvezdoy, 2015) is a Russian musical drama about the Soviet pop stage you can watch online on iFILM. It's set in the late 1950s and 1960s, the years that produced a whole constellation of stage legends. At its heart is singer Claudia Koval, a character stitched together from the real divas of that era.
Claudia is a Leningrad University student, Polish by birth, with no thought of a stage career — until she meets composer Pavel Shakhovskoy, "Pal Sanych" to his friends. Taken with her voice, he asks her to front his ensemble. A win at the World Festival of Youth and Students opens the door to real fame, and to everything fame costs. Marina Alexandrova plays Claudia, Igor Petrenko her composer.
