Artist (2022) is a Russian period detective series you can watch online on iFILM. Moscow, March 1944: the war's tide has turned and victory feels near, until a string of savage armed robberies sours the mood.

The case falls to seasoned Major Yefimov and Captain Sazonov. The gang has an unsettling signature — the lineup of raiders keeps changing, and at every scene the killers leave behind pencil portraits of the people they've shot. Those drawings and the brutality earn the ringleader his nickname: the Artist. The further the two officers dig, the clearer it becomes that the loot and the corpses are only cover for something else entirely.

Directed by Timur Alpatov, with Andrei Smolyakov, Alexander Gorbatov, Viktor Dobronravov and Darya Ursulyak. Wartime Moscow is practically a character here — blackout streets, ration cards, a city on edge — and that dread does more work than the chase itself. Rated 18+.
