The Enfield Poltergeist (Season 1)

The Enfield Poltergeist (2023) is a four-part documentary series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jerry Rothwell. It returns to north London in 1977 — a council house in Enfield where the Hodgson family reported months of unexplained events that pulled in investigators, reporters, and eventually became one of the most examined paranormal cases on record.

Rothwell builds the series around audio recordings made inside the house as things happened. No narrator shapes them; you hear them directly. Janet Hodgson was eleven at the time, and the recordings of her voice are among the most unsettling parts of an already difficult archive. The series covers the work of investigators Maurice Grosse and Guy Lyon Playfair alongside the sceptics who challenged their findings.
